Emblem: Mountains; upper-case "MT". "Montana" is based off the Spanish "Montaña", which means "mountain". The Rocky Mountains occupy about one-third of the state's territory.
Field: Emblem forms The field repreats the forms of the emblem and implies that the range of which the emblem's two peaks form a part extends far beyond the edges of the flag, just as the Rockies extend far beyond the borders of Montana.
