VIRGINIA

New state flag

Region: South

Emblem: Jamestown Fort; upper-case "V".
Jamestown Colony, founded 1607, was the first permanent English settlement in not only Virginia, but all of North America. It thus was the beginning of what would become the Thirteen Colonies. Viewed from above, the fort of Jamestown resembled a triangle with a circular bastion protruding from each point.

Field: Jamestown's Coastline.
Jamestown was built along the coast, on a small peninsula. The flag's field reflects the colony's surroundings.
