Each new state emblem is based on that state's postal code. Beginning with those two letters—here, CA for California—
I searched for an object or concept that represents the Golden State that the letterforms could be made to resemble. In this case, given the
the size and diversity of the State of California, I decided on a Sun rising behind a mountain to symbolize the state's many different biomes.
The mountain represents the mountain ranges that are found throughout the state, while the Sun stands for
both the sweltering Mojave desert and the bright beaches of Los Angeles.
